How is it that there is such a profound amnesia in Portugal on the topic of the Wiriyamu genocide (1972)? To date, the Portuguese do not feel the weight that is the Moorish part of the history of Portugal?
The chapter on crimes committed by Portugal is not completely closed with the monument in Mozambique in honour of the victims of the Wiriyamu genocide.
Portugal does not recognise the structural, systemic violence it practised in their former colonies, and they teach a soft, "made-up-fake" version of their not so glorious history in schools.
In addition to accepting responsibility officially, the Portuguese government should erect a monument in Portugal in permanent memory of this historical period, a salutary reminder for its collective citizenry of its actions in the former African colonies.
I am ashamed for all the hate and crimes my country of Portugal has perpetrated since it's founding as a nation that stole all the lands we own today by slaughtering the Moors by 711 A.D.
